Author(s): Kiran Bala
Abstract: The twelfth Lok Sabha elections failed to produce a significant verdict in favor of any political party. The 1998 parliamentary elections were held in air of political uncertainty in the country (resulted with withdrawal of the Congress support from the United Front government) with the emergence of 'multiparty system'. The present work has been devoted on the electoral performance of the BJP in this election when it emerged as the largest political party on the national political scene. A detailed analysis has been carried out in terms of percent votes, seats won and seats contested by the BJP in this election. An attempt also has been made to find the reasons behind the advancements made by the BJP in this election.
